The Skinny

I've been asked more than a few times if Seen Reading is "real." We have the stats. We know the books are being bought. That they should be seen being read in one of the largest cities in the world, on one of the busiest transit routes, at peak travel hours...Why is that so hard to believe? This morning, I actually saw a woman who I hand sold a book to at Word on the Street this year. That's a good thing.

So, aside from the fact that I'm horrible with age (maybe she was 35, not 25), absolutely, this is the real deal.

Rah, rah books!

I wish i was articulate enough to tell you how much i love your blog. So i won't try. I will however, say that every-time i read a new post, my love of reading feels invigorated.
There's something beautiful about the very idea of seen reading. I only wish i was able to verbalize what i mean. I truly do.

Wow, I think that pretty much says it all. Thanks for making my day. And it's still early!

I have to chime in here and agree with wally. I've been lurking here for a little bit and am just totally blown away by your imagination, both in coming up with this idea and in your daily writing. I'm always a little excited when the person you're writing about is reading something that I've read. Cheers!

Thanks so much; I love being this kind of geek! (And taking a look at your interests on your profile, what are the odds that I'd post something with a Violent Femmes reference?! "When I'm-a walking, I strut my stuff...")

Hm, this entry made me think about electronic books, or e-books. I'm contemplating buying one of these gadgets just because often I read really thick hard cover books and these are really cumbersome to haul around in public. (Lately I've been buying really large handbags just so that these books can be accomodated.)

... what are your thoughts on ebooks? They would make your job a little harder for sure.

So far I've only seen one or two people with these. I wonder how popular they truly are, or are becoming?
